Certified by instructor to safely operate a forklift. Stacks roof truss packages according to size and job number. Bands roof truss packages for transport to the jobsite. Inspects trusses for any damage or missing plates.
Position: Truss Builder 1
Division/Department: Manufacturing
Reports to: Production Shift Manager
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Stacking & Banding
-
- Certified by instructor to safely operate a forklift
- Stacks roof truss packages according to size and job number
- Bands roof truss packages for transport to the jobsite
- Inspects trusses for any damage or missing plates
- Reads the production sheet to verify lot number and quantity is correct and tags are correct for load
- Safely loads and uses a nail & staple gun
- Reads and understands plans on how to build 2-ply, 3-ply & 4-ply trusses
- Understands and safely uses the finish press on all jack trusses
- Operates the hydraulic stacker. Sorts and stacks per side, by job
- Reads and understands production plans on sheathing gables for up, down, full gable, partial gable
- Able to distinguish between nail patterns on girders and gables. Looks ahead on what is being built and
- stack trusses in yard accordingly without slowing down the truss builders
- Safely operates a forklift to unload the stacker of trusses up to 60’ in length
Pulling Plates
-
- Reads plate count on plans
- Pulls correct plates for trusses
- Understands and identifies the different sizes and gauges of plates
- Understands the proper procedure for substitution of plates
- Documents all plate changes
- Keeps plate area organized, clean and stocked
Plating Trusses
-
- Position requires the use of a hammer and belt holder
- Where and when to use the suspended staple guns
- Read and understand plans for proper placement of plates
- Know how to securely fasten plates to truss joints
- Safely operate gantry and truss lifters to move truss to finish press line
- Clean up as required for the work area
Cart Component Stacking

- Understands truss component markings
- Stacks truss component in correct place and on the correct cart
- Checks carts for missing components by comparing to component list
- Accurately makes truss tags for carts
- Labels truss components per cut sheets
- Moves carts to staging area in preparation for assembly
Equipment Cleanup
-
- Cleans saw as per Sawyer II instructions
- Keeps work area clean, organized and all material flat stacked
- Makes sure all empty carts are properly staged as directed
- Cleanup as required for work area
On-Time Performance
-
- Present at workstation wearing personal protection equipment and ready to work at starting time
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
-
- Can accurately read and understand a tape measure down to a 16th of an inch
- Knowledge of common building materials used in residential, multi-family and commercial construction
- Knowledge of component manufacturing process used in residential, multi-family and commercial construction
- Attention to detail, takes pride in quality of work
- Efficient and able to complete assignments within a given deadline
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Communicates effectively with team members
