What Information Do We Gather About You?
The information we gather about you depends on the context. By and large, it’s information about you that can personally identify you – either on its own or when combined with other information. The following describes the information we collect and how we obtain it.
- Personal Information collected through BSA Services
- Information You Voluntarily Give Us
For Registration: When you sign up for information about our classes or information about the Academy, we collect personal identifiers such as your contact information, including your name and email address, phone number, and general course or career interests. We may also ask if you want to upload a photograph of yourself to assign to your profile. Once you’ve submitted a form on our website, we assign you a unique ID number. This ID number helps us recognize you in our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
If you register for an Academy event, we might ask for additional information (e.g., your company name, your job title, or your employment status, or your dietary restrictions). Some events may have different or additional privacy policies and terms and we recommend that you review those before you register.
For Billing: To process payments, deposits, or donations, we collect and use your payment information. This can include your name, your address, your telephone number, your email address, your credit or debit card information, and any other relevant information.
For Course Enrollment: If you wish to enroll in a course, you may be asked to complete a student application. In the application, we might ask for additional information (e.g., your preferred gender pronouns, your date of birth, your social security number, your driver’s license number, your employment status, your work history, your company name, your job title, your current or most recent pay rate, a current copy of your resume, your course interests, your desired schedule(s), where you heard about us, your education history, your ability to pass a drug screening for employment purposes, your physical capability, your career interests, your trade interests, demographics such as your gender identity, your race/ethnicity, your military background, your housing situation or your family type).
For Participant Surveys, Research, and Other Programs: We gather personal information through questionnaires, surveys, and other feedback programs.
Surveys: Some of our surveys will request your consent to provide on a purely voluntary basis information regarding your experience with various programs and services offered by BSA, including interactions with our staff, program experience, and your employment status post-program, as well as demographic information, some of which may be considered sensitive under applicable laws such as your age, ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, family characteristics and income. We use service provider platforms to support these survey programs, and personal information is shared with them as described below with respect to service providers in general.
All participants in our programs are targeted by these surveys. These surveys are used for a variety of purposes described throughout this Privacy Policy including research for marketing of BSA Services, as well as research to assess program efficacy and individual impact.
During Contact with Our Office Staff (Via Telephone, SMS, Text, or Email): We collect information from you when you call or contact our office staff through one of our phone numbers. This can include your name, contact information, information about your student profile, and any other information you choose to provide.
Personal Contacts Data/BSA Referral Program: We never scan your device for your contacts or upload that data.
With your consent, we do comply with your requests to collect data about your friends, family, or acquaintances (e.g., BSA Student Referral Program). By using it, you acknowledge and agree that both you and your contacts have both consented for us to use their contact information.
If you’d like to invite your friends or family to participate in a BSA program, we will store this information for the sole purposes of determining whether your friends or family apply for a BSA program.

For more information about how to manage tracking methods on BSA Services, read our Cookie Policy and the What Are Your Rights and Choices? section below.
2. Information Collected from Other Sources
-
- Privately Owned Databases
Marketing, data analytics, and social media-owned databases give us access to a range of information — like public data, survey data and more. This data sometimes includes your mailing address, your gender, your age, your household income and other demographic data. What Do We Do with the Information We Collect About You?
We use each of the categories of personal information described above to operate, improve, understand, and personalize our Services, and for the following business and commercial purposes. The activities below can involve outside companies, agents, or contractors (“service providers”) to whom we disclose your personal information for these purposes.
1. We Provide the BSA Services

-
2. We Do Research and Development
We analyze data on our users’ career interests, demographics, participation activity, and other behaviors. This helps us make business and marketing decisions. This allows us to understand what career opportunities our community is interested in and how our training impacts individuals, including improving existing courses or adding new programming, research, surveys, analysis, and product development.
For example, we may share your data, in aggregate, with third party research entities, allowing us to analyze how our training impacts individuals’ economic mobility over time, and helping us determine whether our programming is successful. It also shows us characteristics about our participants to help us understand the demographics that we serve.
We use our own proprietary analytics services, but we also use third party analytics providers. Google Analytics is one of the analytics providers we use on certain BSA Services. You can find out how Google Analytics uses data and how to opt out of Google Analytics.

This is called interest-based advertising. We may also share information about our users with these companies to facilitate interest-based advertising to those or similar users on other online platforms. You can learn more about your choices for limiting interest-based advertising in the Advertising choices section below.
- Cookies and Other Information Collected by Automated Means. We, our service providers, and our business partners may automatically log information about you, your computer, and activity occurring on or through the Service.
